Display Flies
We have added this page to our newly remodeled site as we have been receiving many requests for framed flies thanks largely in part to the Art of Angling Journal. Many readers of the Journal have been contacting us and requesting display flies that are already framed, so for the first time ever as of February 2005 we are offering just that!
Our display flies are sold in a hard case for you to take to your local frame shop where you can have a custom matt and frame made to suit your needs, taste and decor or the fly can be displayed in the hard case itself, its up to you. Or, we now are offering the mounting and framing done by an expert frame shop in our area that is a full service shop and has a lot of experience mounting and framing flies in particular. They have a digital matt cutter which can cut just about any design you wish. In the near future we will be posting pictures of some framed flies with a few different matt designs. You can purchase a single fly in a case for as little as $25 dollars for the fly or you can spend as much as you wish with combinations of flies, prints and pictures.
Our Display Fly Tying Process
In regards to our display flies, we offer a meticulously tied pattern with the finest of all materials which include collector grade jungle cock, Pearsalls silks, the finest French tinsels in the world, display grade hooks and the finest of materials we can get our hands on. Some of our display flies can take hours to tie but that is our commitment to you, THE BEST your money can buy. We are not going to sell you a "fancy" fishing fly that has been slapped into a $3 dollar department store frame with "super grade jungle cock" as a selling point as many will do.
We also want you, the customer, to have input on what you're paying for. Unlike most tyers, we offer a few choices for you when it comes to display flies as everyone likes theirs different. First off, we can do bodies conical or flat, the bucktail can be stacked or "naturally straight" (as I like to refer to it) and the flat ribs can be tapered or standard. After your order is placed we will contact you in regards to these choices to make sure you get exactly what you want.
These display flies can be purchased from us in the galleries under the "Mike Martinek Rangeley Hook" title, and if you want us to do the matting and framing please e-mail us before placing an order.
