Gray Ghost

This has to be Carries most well know pattern, and probably one of the 2 most well know and popular featherwing streamers of all time with Herb Welch's "Black Ghost" being the other. It is an imitation of Osmerus Mordax, a Rainbow Smelt or just plain smelt if youre from New England. This is great for early spring time fishing when the smelt make their runs up into the river mouths to spawn as large salmon and trout follow to gorge themselves on the bait. This pattern did vary a bit in Carries time since dye lots were inconsistent then, but she always used very similar colors and materials. The Gray Ghost was actually named by a client of Carries, Frank Bugbee of Willimantic, Connecticut.
