Black Ghost This pattern was originated by Herbert "Herbie" Welch of Haines Landing, Maine. Herb lived on Mooselookmeguntic Lake in Rangeley Maine, across the lake from Carrie Stevens. He was a fly tier, taxidermist, artist and an all around outdoorsman. Herbs design of the Black Ghost developed between 1919 and 1927 when it was finalized as the pattern you see here today. He owned and operated fly shop at Haines Landing where he sold his flies along with Carrie Stevens'.
